Project Overview

🤕 Symptoms: -Bathroom had suffered from a prior “handyman special” with shortcuts and sloppy execution -Toilet rocked due to an uneven and compromised subfloor -Floor tiles were missing, breaking up continuity and safety -Wall behind the sink and toilet was left open and exposed after incomplete plumbing work -Framing was loose and poorly supported, risking long-term structural and moisture issues -Drop ceiling was outdated and visually disconnected from the space 🩺 Diagnosis: This wasn’t just cosmetic — it was structural negligence dressed up in quick fixes. A rocking toilet and missing tiles pointed to deeper issues below. With no secure framing, improper plumbing, and unfinished surfaces, this bathroom needed more than a patch. It needed a full reset: from the ground up, with purpose, moisture protection, and style in mind. 💉 Treatment Plan: -Repaired and leveled the subfloor beneath the toilet for structural safety and proper fixture support -Installed replacement tiles to match existing floor pattern and restore flow -Removed damaged drywall behind sink and toilet for a clean restart -Secured and corrected plumbing connections — clean, code-compliant, and leak-free -Reinforced wall framing where needed to provide long-term support -Installed HardieBacker cement board for superior water resistance -Set vertical gray subway tiles for a fresh, contemporary aesthetic with visual height -Grouted all tile joints and sealed for durability -Reinstalled existing toilet and added a new vanity and sink to elevate function and style -Replaced the old drop ceiling and repainted the entire space for a fully finished, revitalized bathroom 💡 Prognosis: Now this bathroom holds its ground — literally and stylistically. It’s level, sealed, and confidently rebuilt. With a solid subfloor, sharp tile work, and modern fixtures, this space is no longer hiding problems — it’s holding peace of mind.

Project Notes

📸 These photos show:

  • Subfloor reinforcement and leveling in the toilet zone — no more rocking, no more hidden rot or bounce

  • Plumbing stripped out and corrected, with clean PEX runs, secure shutoffs, and tight joints

  • Old framing pulled, replaced, and beefed up for a rock-solid backer board install

  • HardieBacker installed on all wet wall areas, then vertical gray subway tiles laid from floor to ceiling, adding a modern vibe and elongating the space

  • Existing toilet and new vanity installed with proper sealing and caulk — no leaks, no loose fixtures

  • Drop ceiling replaced with new grid and tiles, then full repaint for a bright, seamless finish

  • Every shortcut or “temporary” fix from the last round of repairs was eliminated. What’s behind the walls is now as strong as what’s on the surface. This is a small bathroom, but it’s got a complete, well-built backbone now.
