What You’re Looking At:
This started as a basic backyard shed but evolved into something way more thoughtful and rugged as we went. There were no official blueprints, just a shared vision between the client and myself. Midway through, we changed the game plan on the fly — and it ended up being one of our favorite builds.

Visible features:

  • The shed sits on a rock-solid foundation, giving it stability and long-term integrity.
  • The frame was laid out using pressure-treated #2 pine 4x4s for the base, with Douglas fir wall framing for added strength.
  • Exterior was wrapped in T1-11 siding, fully painted and weather-sealed to lock out moisture and hold up to the seasons.
  • Roofing finished with Owens Corning Duration Shingles, built to take wind, rain, and time in stride.

✅ Do:

✔️ Keep the siding washed down once or twice a year to help the sealant do its job
✔️ Inspect the roof after any major storm — shingles are tough, but awareness is tougher

❌ Don’t:

❌ Don’t store heavy, wet materials tight to the siding — it needs space to breathe
❌ Don’t let foundation edges grow over — keep the base visible to prevent hidden water damage

Overview

🤕 Symptoms: -No existing shed or structure on-site -Needed dependable storage without compromising the yard’s visual appeal Project began with a loose concept — no architectural plans or specs -Midway through, the opportunity emerged to evolve the layout for more efficiency -Constant exposure to weather meant the build had to be tight, durable, and grounded 🩺 Diagnosis: What seemed like a simple shed job turned into a call for a clean, solid, and intentional build. With no formal blueprints, this structure had to be guided by experience and feel. It needed to emerge organically, with careful framing and a long-view approach. The site required precision in leveling and drainage, while the framing and finish needed to stand up to time without screaming for attention. 🛠️ Treatment Plan: -Constructed a level, moisture-resistant base foundation -Used pressure-treated #2 pine 4x4s for the perimeter and base frame -Framed the walls with Douglas fir — clean, strong, and dimensionally stable -Applied fully painted and weather-sealed T1-11 siding for exterior protection -Installed Owens Corning Duration shingles for top-tier durability and wind resistance -Modified layout mid-build to better fit evolving storage needs and traffic flow -Emphasized symmetry, clean finish lines, and future-proof utility 💡 Prognosis: What stands now is more than a shed — it’s a smart, resilient outbuilding with a calm presence. It doesn’t fight the property’s look — it supports it. With a rock-solid frame, tight roof, and breathable materials, this structure is ready to store, support, and stay sharp for the long run. Sometimes simplicity is the highest form of refinement — and that’s exactly what was built here.
