Project Overview

Nov 9, 2019

Dec 10, 2019

🤕 Symptoms: -Active leaks coming through a worn, aging roof -Exposure of new interior framing due to full gut renovation -Risk of further structural and moisture damage if left untreated -No current protection in place for the interior investment -Aesthetic and resale value threatened by roof's visible decline 🩺 Diagnosis & Evaluation: This roof had reached the edge of its lifespan — and the stakes were higher than usual. The home’s interior had already been completely gutted to the studs and siding removed, signaling a full-scale rebuild in progress. But without a sealed lid, all that fresh framing was at risk. The roof wasn’t just old — it was leaking, inconsistent in ventilation, and long overdue for replacement. The job wasn’t about patchwork; it was about securing what’s next. 🛠️ Treatment Plan: -Removed 22 squares of old shingles across all house roof sections -Inspected the full surface and replaced four compromised 4x8 plywood sheets as needed 🧠 Installed full layers of weatherproofing protection, including: -Drip edge -Ice & water shield -Full tar paper underlayment -Starter shingles at all eaves and rakes -Installed Owens Corning architectural shingles for performance and visual upgrade -Integrated ridge venting system with cap shingles for better attic breathing -All debris removed and job left clean, dry, and secure 💡 Prognosis: With the roof locked in, the rest of the rebuild can continue with confidence. This upgrade didn’t just stop water — it laid the foundation for a smooth resale or safe long-term use. The structure can now breathe, resist the elements, and move forward without risking what’s already been invested inside.

Project Notes

📸 These photos show:

  • Full roof tear-off exposing existing sheathing and areas of deterioration

  • Replacement of compromised plywood panels with new decking

  • Sequential installation of moisture barriers and underlayment

  • Ridge vent integration and cap shingle detailing

  • Completed Owens Corning architectural shingle system — uniform, tight, and weather-sealed

The project’s success came down to precision timing — sealing the structure before further interior progress. The result is a watertight, energy-efficient system designed for longevity and low maintenance.

Preventative Care – Do’s & Don’ts

Do:

  • Always prioritize roof replacement before interior renovation to protect your investment

  • Clear debris (leaves, branches) each season to maintain drainage

  • Schedule professional inspections and gentle cleanings every few years to extend roof life

🚫 Don’t:

  • Walk on shingles unless professionally trained — it risks damage, especially in wet or cold conditions

  • Ignore new signs of moisture or ceiling spots — even sealed systems need annual flashing checks
