Project Notes

A full pergola and deck awning restoration project completed in Poughkeepsie, NY, featuring structural rebuilding, roofing replacement, and detailed finish work.
We started by dismantling the existing awning system, removing the warped vinyl panels and deteriorated rafters. Each piece was evaluated, and the framing layout was slightly reengineered to correct long-term sagging. Using pressure-treated rafters and new posts, we introduced a central beam reinforcement to distribute weight evenly across the span — preventing future deflection and improving wind resistance.
Once the frame was secured and squared, we installed smoke-tinted corrugated vinyl panels, chosen for their light-filtering quality and durability. This specific panel type not only provides shade but also protects against harmful UV rays without darkening the space below. The entire roofline was integrated into the home’s gutter system with custom aluminum flashing, creating a watertight seal and clean finish that prevents runoff from penetrating the frame.
The project retained the client’s original visual style while dramatically improving performance, longevity, and maintenance ease. The refreshed pergola now complements the deck’s footprint, creating a versatile outdoor living space that invites relaxation without worry.
✅ Maintenance Tips:
Rinse vinyl panels with mild soap and water every few months to prevent haze buildup.
Check fasteners and structural joints annually for tightness.
Keep gutters and flashing clear to maintain proper water flow.
Avoid harsh abrasives on vinyl panels — a soft brush and gentle cleaner are all that’s needed.
Result:
A structure reborn through thoughtful craftsmanship — visually identical to the original design but built for the next decade of seasons.
