Project Notes

A complete gazebo rebuild and custom expansion in Pleasant Valley, NY, including full structural framing, roofing, siding, and finishing.
The project began with the arrival of a disassembled gazebo kit — parts labeled but incomplete, with no manual or guide to follow. Using intuitive alignment and experience in adaptive framing, we reconstructed the base structure and established a level, anchored footprint on newly set footings. Once the original frame stood true, we extended the design with two integrated additions that expanded the footprint and functionality of the space.
The first extension (4 feet deep) was designed to house small outdoor appliances such as a stove or refrigerator, maintaining open access to the main gazebo area while protecting equipment from weather. The second extension (8 feet deep) became a fully enclosed storage zone, complete with dedicated framing, sheathing, and a weather-sealed entryway for long-term use.
The entire exterior was wrapped in T1-11 panel siding, chosen for its dimensional texture and durability, then finished with soffit and fascia integration to allow continuous airflow and eliminate trapped heat. The roofing system — sheathed, shingled, and flashed to match — ensures a unified appearance across all structural zones. Inside, the cedar-plank wall cladding gives the space warmth and character, softening the transition from utility to comfort.
✅ Maintenance Tips:
Reseal T1-11 siding every 3–5 years to prevent moisture penetration.
Inspect soffit and fascia edges each spring for leaf or insect buildup.
Wipe down cedar interior panels with a dry cloth seasonally to preserve their tone.
Keep the base perimeter clear of mulch or soil to promote airflow beneath.
Result:
A once-forgotten kit now stands as a cohesive, multi-functional outbuilding — blending structural precision with design intention. It’s proof that skilled rebuilding isn’t just about following plans; it’s about seeing what the plans could be.
