Project Notes
📸 These photos show:
A complete deck removal and composite rebuild in Poughkeepsie, NY, focused on termite damage repair, substructure reinforcement, and material upgrade.
Our process began with a controlled demolition, removing each surface board and revealing the hidden structural damage beneath. Several joists were found hollowed by termite activity, while others showed advanced rot from water retention. Once cleared, the entire frame was replaced with pressure-treated lumber, each joist end sealed to block moisture wicking — a small but critical step for long-term structural integrity.
We then installed Trex composite decking, selected for its resistance to fading, water, and pests. The surface was laid with precise spacing and color-matched fasteners to maintain consistent lines and seamless drainage. The staircase was fully rebuilt after decking installation to ensure perfect alignment and tread depth.
Throughout construction, the homeowner’s existing railing system was protected under wrap, then cleaned and repainted to harmonize with the new deck color. Aluminum flashing was applied at all ledger connections to prevent future water intrusion between the deck and home.
✅ Maintenance Tips:
Rinse the composite surface seasonally with mild soap and a soft brush.
Inspect framing contact points annually for any debris accumulation.
Keep mulch, soil, and foliage away from deck posts to discourage moisture and pests.
Schedule pest control inspections every few years if the property borders wooded areas.
Result:
What began as a hidden infestation became a full structural revival. The deck now carries zero organic vulnerability — just durable, UV-stable, low-maintenance materials that restore both safety and serenity. It’s a perfect example of how modern composites and disciplined reconstruction can turn hidden damage into long-term confidence.
