Preventative Care – Do’s and Don’ts

DO:
✔ Hose down vinyl siding 1–2 times per year to keep oxidation and buildup at bay
✔ Check for caulk deterioration at window trim every spring
✔ Apply a fresh deck stain every 2–3 years to preserve structure and appearance

DON’T:
✖ Power wash siding too aggressively—vinyl has limits
✖ Let soil or mulch pile up against the foundation or siding
✖ Paint over aluminum wrap—it’s meant to stay maintenance-free

Overview

This project shows the full transformation of a dated split-level home that received an overdue exterior overhaul—from aluminum siding removal to structural deck repair. 🩺Symptoms: The aging aluminum siding had oxidized, dented, and lost its weatherproofing over the years. Paint was flaking off the foundation, the roof was curling at the edges, and the back deck looked structurally uncertain. Window frames and trim lacked proper sealing or protection. Diagnosis & Evaluation: The aluminum cladding, once a modern solution, had become a liability. It lacked insulation value, showed surface deterioration, and didn’t offer the crisp aesthetic the homeowners were looking for. The whole home needed re-wrapping—both visually and functionally. 🛠️ Treatment Plan (What We Performed): -Removed all existing aluminum siding and prepped for full vinyl replacement with upgraded underlayment -Installed brand new Owens Corning Duration shingles featuring high-wind resistance and SureNail technology -Wrapped all exposed wood window trim with clean-cut aluminum coil for a long-lasting, maintenance-free finish -Applied aluminum wrap to garage door frames for visual continuity -Repaired foundation cracks and applied a fresh coat of foundation paint for water resistance and a polished base -Installed two new basement windows to improve thermal performance and security -Fully repaired, restructured, and stained the backyard deck, including stairs -Installed new soffit and fascia for airflow, pest resistance, and complete siding integration -Added new shutters to reinforce clean symmetry and style 💡 Result: A polished, energy-efficient exterior that dramatically boosts curb appeal. Every detail—from the crisp blue siding to the protected trim—was planned for longevity and balanced aesthetics. Lorna and Lascoe now have a home that feels truly renewed.
