Patient: Classic residential exterior with aged wood siding, tired trim, and under-ventilated soffits
Referred by: Homeowner committed to keeping the home’s character while improving its defenses

🤕 Symptoms:

-Wood siding showing signs of age, surface breakdown, and paint fatigue
-Pergola finish worn down by sun, moisture, and time
-Trim patchwork and gaps beginning to invite unwanted moisture and pests
-Soffits lacking ventilation — leading to trapped heat and increased potential for rot from within
-Overall visual appeal and weather-readiness beginning to drift

🩺 Diagnosis:

This home didn’t need to be reinvented — it just needed to be listened to. The wood siding still had life in it, but the surface was dull, tired, and vulnerable. The pergola had lost its clarity, turning from feature to faded fixture. Without proper venting in the soffits, the whole structure was holding its breath — trapped heat and moisture slowly setting up long-term issues.

When exterior wood stops breathing and shedding water, it starts pulling the whole house into imbalance. It affects airflow, temperature regulation, and invites decay where you can’t see it — until it’s too late.

🛠️ Treatment Plan:

-Carefully sanded, patched, and repainted all wood siding and trim with a durable finish
-Restored the pergola structure with a fresh protective coating to enhance both appearance and weather resistance
-Installed proper soffit ventilation by cutting a series of 3” holes and fitting each with aluminum vent inserts, ensuring consistent attic and rafter air exchange
-Checked surrounding fascia and trim zones to confirm all layers were sealed and water-tight
-Preserved original architectural character while reinforcing the structure’s longevity

💡 Prognosis:

This house now stands sharper, stronger, and smarter than before — with charm you can see and defenses you can’t. When wood gets sealed right and airflow is restored, the whole house exhales easier. Moisture leaves, pests stay out, and your energy costs stop bleeding. What looks like a paint job on the surface was actually a rebalancing of the home’s outer skin and inner breath. This one didn’t need a remodel — it just needed real care.
