Basement, Laundry & Storage Upgrade

Overview

Sep 12, 2023
🤕 Symptoms:
-Old wood shelving areas inside garage door were dirty, uneven, and not designed for cleanlyness
-Aged workbench and pegboard in the basement were showing signs of wear
-Basement laundry and storage space had unfinished, unsealed walls vulnerable to moisture and hard to keep clean
-Corroded pipes fell apart in my hands- no issue for me, I was able to repair it the same day no loss of amenities
-Cluttered work zones made for inefficient use of space and no cohesive visual flow
🩺 Diagnosis:
This basement space had good bones, but its surfaces weren’t up to the task — or the times. Moisture-prone concrete walls, decaying shelves, and patchy work areas left the space looking tired and underperforming. From a construction and metaphysical standpoint, clutter and deterioration block function and energy flow. What it needed was a clean sweep, a durable refresh, and a smarter structure built for daily use and long-term utility.
🛠️ Treatment Plan:
Garage Shelving (x2)
-replaced existing shelves with vinyl plank board cut to size
-Installed new Frp and Vinyl plank to backs, sides, and tops of both shelf areas (glued + nailed)
-Trimmed out the front edges using custom-ripped vinyl plank
-Caulked all inside corners for a clean seal
Workbench Table Area
-Removed pegboard and original desk and shelving
-Cut and installed FRP paneling totaly over entire desk using FRP glue
-Added ¾” vinyl composite material for custom shelving as needed for enhanced functionality
-Reorganized layout to maximize usability and lighten visual clutter
Concrete Basement Walls (Approx. 715 sq ft)
-Quarantined work zones to protect clean areas — post-cleanup included
-Scratched and cleaned concrete walls using wire brushes and scrapers
-Applied one full coat of parging across all walls for a sealed, uniform base
-Finished with Drylok waterproofing paint for all exterior-facing cement walls and upper basement landing
FRP Paneling Installations
-Replaced the old desk and shelves with brand new wood construction fully wrapped in FRP panels
-Wrapped two garage door shelving sections in FRP to match new bench design
-Installed all FRP cuts precisely to fit and flow around pipes and irregular shapes for seamless moisture resistance
-Transformed the basement utility area into a bright, easy-to-clean, water-ready workspace
💡 Prognosis:
This was a full-spectrum basement reset. Now that the aged wood, moisture-prone surfaces, and clutter zones have been fully treated, the space is not only cleaner but more energetically aligned with practical living. Workflows are simplified, storage is defined, and the updated finishes promote both hygiene and durability. This project didn’t just patch over problems — it rebuilt smarter from the surface inward. The result? A space that’s clean, functional, and finally ready to support the homeowner’s vision.
